How Successful is Our HIV-Prevention Program at Building Sustainable and Healthy Communities?

Survival Rates

Survival rates of 95% for HIV-infected children, and an overall improvement in their health measured by weight-gain, reduced number of ancillary infections and an increase in CD4 counts. As a result of their improved health all school age children are in school and learning.

HIV Free

Over the last six years,100% of children born to HIV+ moms were HIV free. To date, out of a total of 35 children, 34 were born HIV free even though they have HIV+ moms and older siblings.

Reduced Milaria

As a result of our malaria prevention program we are seeing a reduced incidence of malaria, and improved knowledge about malaria prevention. As the children improve in health, school attendance and performace goes up.

Self Sustainment

Loan repayment rates are above 90%. This is extraordinary, given the difficult circumstances faced by our loan recipients. In addtion, most loan recipients start saving a small amount each week, understand the importance of keeping children in school, and are confident about their future.
